When the Kids Performed, the Crowd Lit Up

Last night at Needville’s Country Christmas festival, the air was filled with hometown holiday spirit—warm lights, handmade booths, and excited families gathering to watch the daycare kids perform. But with so many people packed in close and movement happening everywhere, setting up a tripod or monopod just wasn’t an option.

So instead, I leaned into the challenge. I reached for a fast prime lens to let in as much light as possible and paid close attention to how the streetlights were falling across the crowd. That soft, warm glow became my light source for the night. Rather than photographing the stage, I focused on the parents and grandparents—capturing their smiles, their raised phones, and the pride on their faces as their little ones performed.

These moments tell the real story of the evening: families lit up by Christmas magic and street-light glow. Here are a few favorites from the crowd’s perspective.

Moments like these remind me how quickly kids grow. If you have a senior this year, I’d love to create portraits that celebrate their story. View my senior portrait portfolio here: https://roykasmirphotography.com/senior-portrait.html
