The Witching Hour at the Edge of the Woods

Every now and then, I like to step outside my usual portrait work and create something a little different — something that pushes my creativity in new directions. This photoshoot with Isabel was one of those sessions.

The theme was black magic and witchery, and we couldn’t have picked a better location — out in a pasture, right at the edge of the woods. The timing was perfect, too. We started just before sunset and worked until it was nearly too dark to focus. That fading light gave everything a mysterious, cinematic feel that really brought the theme to life.

Isabel came prepared with all the right props — tarot cards, candle holders, and even animal skulls — which added layers of character and authenticity to the scene. I wanted the final images to feel timeless, so I processed them in an older black-and-white style, keeping the tones dark and moody to match the story we were telling.

Projects like this remind me how important it is to keep experimenting, to learn from every challenge, and to bring that knowledge back into my portrait work. Whether it’s a creative concept like this or a high school senior session, my goal is always the same — to tell a story through light, mood, and emotion.
