Chasing Light After Sunset

Every shoot comes with its own story and its own challenges. This one started with a young woman ready to turn the page after a breakup—wanting something bold, confident, and urban at golden hour in a stunning black dress.

We arrived right as the sun began to dip behind the skyline. The light faded faster than expected, and I realized I had left my tripod behind. Low light, long lens, and no stabilizer—always a fun combination. But that’s where adaptability kicks in. I shifted my approach, making use of directional side lighting and the city’s ambient glow to create moodier, more dramatic frames.

Instead of fighting the darkness, we embraced it. The results were richer shadows, punchy highlights, and images that carry the emotion of the moment: a mix of vulnerability, resilience, and the confidence that comes from stepping into a new phase of life.

As a photographer, these moments are building blocks. Every unexpected hurdle becomes a lesson—helping me grow my toolkit, refine my instincts, and strengthen my ability to create under pressure. It’s experience like this that fuels my senior portrait sessions: crafting images that feel authentic, empowering, and full of personality, no matter the setting or the light.

If you’re a senior looking to celebrate your achievements and step confidently into what’s next, I’d love to create something unforgettable with you.
